Following on from my blog post in May on places to visit in London, I think it's about time to address the Great Places to Eat in London. What better than a fat bastard massive breakfast, Bavarian goodness, and a beautifully healthy salad? Amazing variety, and these are the places I visited during my last visit..
If you are visiting London, I recommend that you visit one of the many Breakfast Clubs, which are dotted around London - I am sure you will not be disappointed. As the name suggests the cafe specialises in breakfasts and brunches, but are far superior to your run of the mill Full English. Just imagine smashed avocado, chorizo hash, eggs benedict (hipster-style!).
I have attended one other Breakfast Club, but on this visit, I searched for one that was close to where my sightseeing would commence, and this was easy to find, and probably like most of The Breakfast Clubs, you will have a wait, but bear with it, because it is worth it. I waited 20 minutes or so outside before being seated.
Inside, was small, but had quite a mediterranean style, especially with the colours, but also the usual unique and quirky posters and framed photos dotted around the walls.
I ordered the Chorizo Hash with added avocado, because.. avocado.
Absolutely delicuous! Although I did recheck the mention to make sure I didn't accidentally order a breakfast for two as it was a MASSIVE portion. Delicious chorizo hash with poached egg and grilled peppers and mushrooms, lying on a bed of caramelised crushed potatoes, and a dollop of lemon and feta sauce. Oh my! Oh, and avocado on the side. Superb! Even though, I was unable to finish it, I had no desire (in a good way!) to eat for the rest of the day. I bought a salad in the evening, but I left that until the next day. The breakfast set me up for the 10s of kilometres I walked that day. Totally worth it!
Next time, I am in London, I will be returning.
Bavarian Beerhouse
I wasn't disappointed; the restaurant/bar is an homage to the Bavarian beerhouses, but in good taste, with staff dressed in Lederhosen and Drndl (not gimmicky plastic uniforms) and great decoration around the walls. This Bavarian Beerhouse has a small narrow bar areawhen you enter, but also a separate and larger dining area/space downstairs.
The restaurant has the perfect selection of beers from Erdinger Dunkel, Weißbier, Paulaner, and many more authentic beers.
Overall, great food, great beer, and great service.
Chop'd - Covent Garden
After attending the opening to the Manchester Chop'd Salad Bar, I have been a massive fan since, and as it originated from London, whilst I was in the vicinity, I couldn't resist but visi one of the many salad bars. Especially when I was seeking a good healthy salad after a day wandering the parks of London and having a massive breakfast.
The joy of Chop'd is that the customer creates their own salad. Choose your base, add three veg, then one deli item, with any choice of garnish and dressing. Whatever you choose, it would be superb as the options are vast and plentiful.
Here, the staff were friendly, and the place itself is in a prime location with great options to take your salad outside and enjoy some fresh air, and if lucky, some sun.
Bavarian Beerhouse
It has been a place I've been yearning to visit for many years and each time I visited London, so on this occasion it was high on my priority list. This is purely down to the fact that I have a great fondness for Bavaria, and its food and beer. Specifically the meat dishes and the Weißbier (wheat beer).
The restaurant has the perfect selection of beers from Erdinger Dunkel, Weißbier, Paulaner, and many more authentic beers.
I visited on a Wednesday when it had its "Wurst Wednesday" deal, which consisted of a sausage platter full of Frankfurter, and Nürnberger Wurst on a bed of mashed potato. You also get a beer, all for the price of £15. Pure sausage goodness! If you are a fan of sausages, or German sausages, then this platter is for you.
Overall, great food, great beer, and great service.
